Charles William "Bill" Blethroade

Charles William “Bill” Blethroade, age 100 of Mattoon, IL formerly of Sedalia, MO passed away at 5:20 AM, Monday, March 18, 2024, in Mattoon, IL. A funeral service in his honor will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Cathy Beals will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Bill was born on October 12, 1923, in Cameron, MO to the late Charles Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Waful) Blethroade. He married Mary Margaret Hyatt on December 24, 1945, in East Kansas City, MO; she preceded him in death on April 5, 2002. He is survived by his two sons, Charles Frederick “Fred” Blethroade and wife Karen of Mattoon, IL, David Wayne Blethroade of Humboldt, IL; five grandchildren: Shelly Eubank and husband Ed of Charleston, IL, Christy Hanson and husband Matt of Arcola, IL, Lori Croft and husband Jon of Mattoon, IL, Keri Keeton and husband Brian of Indianapolis, IN, Ryan Blethroade and wife Lisa of St. Charles, IL; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters, and one daughter-in-law, Anita Blethroade. Mr. Blethroade was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Humboldt, and Mattoon, IL. For the majority of his career, he worked in sales which included: Paul Harris Furniture for eight years, TV Janes Furniture for twenty-three years, and Anderman Furniture for six years. He also worked at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home as a Funeral Director’s Assistant for four years. He held memberships at Lions Club, Eagle’s Club and the Moose Lodge all of Mattoon, IL, and Odd Fellow Rebekah’s of Arthur, IL. Bill was skilled at refinishing furniture and enjoyed oil painting. He was especially fond of painting nature scenes. As a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Bill will be greatly missed but the loving memories of him will live in the hearts of his family and friends.
