Mattoon, IL – Carolyn J. Suerdieck, age 65, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. The funeral service in her honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father John Titus officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. Carolyn was born April 1, 1951, in East Washington, PA, the daughter of the late Richard J. and Jeanne W. (Warrick) Busbey. She married Chris Suerdieck on February 18, 1972, in Mattoon, IL. Survivors include Chris, her loving husband of nearly 45 years; their children, Bryan Suerdieck with Tracy Clark of Santa Barbara, CA, and Beth Suerdieck of Nashville, TN; two sisters, Becky Crites and husband Jerry of Mattoon, IL, and Janet Uphoff and husband Scott of Mattoon, IL; her step-mother, Sylvia Busbey of Mattoon, IL; and several nieces and nephews. A founding partner in the Picket Fence, Carolyn treasured the many lasting friendships she made with customers and co-workers alike. She was a member of several bridge clubs and eagerly looked forward to her breakfast club mornings. A vibrant spirit, Carolyn was willing to try anything, and had been active in jazzercise, softball, and running. Her hobbies included flower gardening and interior decorating. The highlight of her life was her family and she cherished family vacations and the memories they created. Over the years, she fought several progressively debilitating illnesses with dignity and grace, always thinking of others before herself. Her family was the center of her life and her friends were treated like family. Everyone who met her was touched by her heartwarming smile.
