Bradley K. Cushman

Mattoon, IL-Bradley 'Brad' K. Cushman, age 58, of Mattoon, IL, lost his three year battle with liver cancer on August 7, 2013, while surrounded by his family at his home. He fought a courageous battle until the very end.\r\n\r\nThe funeral service in his honor will begin at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, with Reverend David Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins. Military rites will be conducted by the Mattoon VFW Post 4325 at Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, IL. \r\n\r\nBorn September 26, 1954, in Mattoon, IL, Brad was the son of Kenneth W. and Betty J. (Powell) Cushman. He married Connie Logue on November 4, 1978 in Mode, IL. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Betty Cushman of Mattoon, IL; four children, Kyla Jo Cushman (Tina Downs) of Urbana, IL, Kenneth Roy Cushman (Amanda) of Mattoon, IL, Adam Ferrell Cushman (Sarah Bukus) of Chicago, IL, and Bobbi Jean Ballinger (Joe) of Mattoon, IL; seven grandchildren, Cody Allen Bryant (Franny Walton) of Dixon, IL, Elizabeth Paige Brown (Brendon Rentfro) of Neoga, IL, Chancelor Bauer Cushman of Louisville, KY, Griffin Tomer of Mattoon, IL, Chace Bradley Cushman of Mattoon, IL, Jaxon Remon Tomer, Mattoon, IL, and Emilia Grace Ballinger of Mattoon, IL; and two great grandchildren, Lydia Kay Rentfro of Neoga, IL and Alyssa Nicole Rentfro of Neoga, IL. Other special people in his life included Dewight and Sandy Powell, Dewight Fitt, Steve Hopper, Misty & Steve Tomer, and Joe Teachu. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Wallace Cushman; his grandparents, Roy and Josephine Powell and Dewey and Grace Cushman; one sister, Renee Lynn Cushman; mother-in-law, Dorothy A. Logue; and brother-in-law, Bobby Logue, Jr.\r\n\r\nBrad graduated from Mattoon High School in 1972 and immediately joined the United States Army. He served our country from 1972 to 1973. \r\n\r\nFor more than 22 years, Brad worked as a signalman for Conrail Railroad and, for the most part, loved his job. He had a passion for working on cars and motorcycles and loved the challenge of finding the problem or building from scratch. He also loved hunting in the mountains of Colorado; however his greatest joy came from his family.
