Betty L. Hardwick

Mattoon-Betty L. Hardwick, age 89, of Mattoon, passed away at 9:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2009, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center surrounded by her loving family.\r\n\r\nThe funeral service in her honor will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2009, at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Snow officiating. The church is located at 1804 South Ninth Street, Mattoon, Illinois, 61938. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the church 2 hours prior to the service time. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.\r\n\r\nMrs. Hardwick was born September 5, 1919, the daughter of Albert M. and Bonnie (Curtis) Shores. She married Robert E. Hardwick in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 1, 1938. He passed away May 15, 1992. Survivors include two children: Robert C. Hardwick of Mattoon, and Janice L. Morgan and husband Robert of Toledo, Illinois; grandchildren: Steve Morgan and wife Terry of Neoga, Illinois, Julie Gerkin and husband Mike of Mattoon, Illinois, Shelly Scott and husband Mark of Mattoon, Illinois, Amy Maninfior and husband Jeff of Mattoon, Illinois, and Jason Morgan and wife Kelly of Mattoon, Illinois; great grandchildren: Matt, Molly, and Michael Morgan, all of Virden, Illinois, Machelle Morgan of Neoga, Illinois, Blake, Nick, and Lily Maninfior, Jordan, Jacob, Sophia, and Sammy Gerkin, Noah Scott, and Nathan Morgan, all of Mattoon, Illinois; a step great granddaughter, Ashley White of Mattoon, Illinois, and a brother in law, John Swank of Mattoon, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Bernadine Heckler, Margie Pezzimento, and Georgia Swank; and a great granddaughter, Danielle Lynn Scott, who passed away in 1998. \r\n\r\nMrs. Hardwick was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mattoon. She was a former employee of the Community Unit School District #2 and was later employed as personal secretary to the president of Lake Land College from which she retired.\r\n\r\nBetty was a wonderful woman who realized the value of family and treasured each of them and the many joys they brought to her life.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1804 South Ninth Street, Mattoon, Illinois, 61938.
