Butler, age 68, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 11:42 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO. \r\nThe funeral service in his honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL, with Reverend Mike Snow officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the church. Masonic rites will begin at 3:45 p.m. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938, is assisting the family with arrangements.\r\nMr. Butler was born October 31, 1941, in Ashmore, IL, the son of Frank and Dorothy (Ogle) Butler. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1961 and married Jacqueline Scribner on February 28, 1965, in Ashmore, IL. She survives. Other survivors include their two children, Amy Utsler and husband Dean of Mattoon, IL, and Brian Butler of Mattoon, IL; four brothers, Frank Butler, Jr. of Rardin, IL, James Butler and wife Karen of Ashmore, IL, Richard Butler of Mattoon, IL, and Danny Butler and wife Susie of Lerna, IL; four sisters, Shirley Harner and husband Fred of Mattoon, IL, Karen Moore and husband Tom of Bay Minette, AL, Phyllis Ellis and husband Steve of King City, MO, and Norma Smith of Charleston, IL; two sisters in-law, Charlotte Butler of Tennessee, and Brenda Butler of Charleston, IL; and five grandchildren, Trey Utsler, Brianna Butler, Jackson Utsler, Layden Butler, and Jett Butler, all of Mattoon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Ronnie Butler. \r\nMr. Butler was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL. He earned his living as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 347 for 45 years. Other memberships include the Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260, Ansar Shrine, Cornbelt Shrine, Scottish Rite of Danville, and High Twelve. Larry was also a former Mattoon City Commissioner, and for 21 years, was business owner of Mrs. B's Teacher Supplies. His favorite pastimes included traveling with his wife and being involved with his grandchildren and their activities. Larry was a friendly man who never met a stranger and treasured his family.
