Frank J. Slaughter

Frank J. Slaughter, age 77, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Douglas Rehabilitation Care Facility in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2017, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Frank was born January 8, 1940, the son of Thomas and Helen (McCormick) Slaughter. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gloria Summers; two daughters, Trish Chapman of Mattoon, IL, Kristen Shaughnessy of Springfield, IL; two step-daughters, Melissa Walker and husband Steve of Charleston, IL, Heather Whitt of Charleston; three grandchildren, Damon Ochs of Charleston, IL, Taylor Barnes and Ethan Whitt of Lindsey, OK; four brothers, James “Skip” Slaughter and wife Delores of Hinsdale, IL, Phil Slaughter and wife Betty of Mattoon, IL, Patrick “Sam” Slaughter and wife Sharon of Sullivan, IL, Mark “Skeet” Slaughter of Mattoon, IL; and one sister, Connie Kimrey of Mendota, IL. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, J.T. Slaughter, one sister-in-law, Linda Gano Slaughter, one son-in-law, Wes Chapman, one brother-in-law, Paul Kimrey, one nephew, Mike Slaughter, and his beloved dog, Scooby. Frank was a 60 year member of IBEW Local 146 of Decatur, IL where he was an electrical superintendent for many projects including: the State of Illinois Department of Revenue Willard ICE Building in Springfield, IL, University of Illinois Veterinary Hospital in Champaign-Urbana, IL, Diamond Star Mitsubishi Plant in Bloomington, IL, and prisons, schools, and power stations throughout the Midwest. He enjoyed collecting antiques, especially Flow Blue and Art Glass, a Corvette fan, and former member of several civic organizations. After retirement, Frank participated in acting courses, leading to his role as an extra in movies “Legally Blonde II” and “The Game of Their Lives.” Frank will be remembered as a selfless and generous man, and will be greatly missed.
