Audrey Mae Hutchings

Audrey Mae Hutchings, age 93 of Mattoon, IL passed away on November 10, 2024, in Maroa, IL. A funeral service in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 18, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8975 E. County Rd 1200 N., Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend Dan Ulrich will officiate. A committal service will immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, in Mattoon, IL. The visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Audrey was born on March 11, 1931, in Mattoon, IL to the late Claude M. and Mary M. (Taylor) Oakley. She married Lyle B. Fitt; he preceded her in death on June 26, 1969. She later married Edward C. Hutchings on May 29, 1971, in Dorans, IL; he preceded her in death on August 7, 1990. She is survived by four children: Dennis R. Fitt and wife Susan, David L. Fitt, Donna R. Noble, and Gary Hutchings all of Mattoon, IL; daughter-in-law, Mary Hutchings of Sullivan, IL; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Doug Fitt, Dennis Hutchings; one brother, Richard O. Oakley; one daughter-in-law, Pat Hutchings. Audrey was a devoted member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mattoon, IL where she was active in the St. Paul’s Board of Finances and Bible School. She retired from General Electric in Mattoon, IL as a quality control specialist. She was the owner of Gills Drive Inn in Mattoon, IL for more than twenty years which her daughter, Donna managed. Possessing the heart of a servant, Audrey was a faithful supporter of her community and volunteered in multiple locations including Mattoon Community Food Center, the American Red Cross Blood Drive Call Committee, and was a Board Member of the LifeSpan Center in Charleston, IL. A card club member, she took pleasure in playing Hand and Foot and many various card games and dominos. She enjoyed dining at Gills Drive Inn and traveling with her group of eight friends. A woman of great faith, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Audrey will be lovingly remembered.
