Mattoon, IL – Caryl Eugene “Gene” Yantis, age 77, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 5:58 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The funeral service in his honor will begin at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938, with Reverend J. Anthony “Tony” Shuff officiating. Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.
Born on December 3, 1932, in Mattoon,IL, Gene was the son of Caryl E. and Bertha Olive (Henderson) Yantis. He is survived by his special friend, Mollie Meisenheimer of Freeburg, IL; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Yantis served our country with the United States Army, was a member of the First Christian Church, and had been employed by Central National Bank until retiring in 1973.
