Dale R. Williams Dale R. Williams, age 92, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 7:50 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in his residence.
The funeral service in his honor will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 3, 2012, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Reverend John Helgeson will officiate. Burial will take place in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Mattoon VFW Post #4325. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the funeral home.
Born September 5, 1920, in Nokomis, Illinois, Dale was the son of Thomas Glenn and Naomi (Uzzell) Williams. He married Norma Jean Tomlin on January 28, 1945 in Mattoon, IL. She preceded him in death in February of 1994.
Dale is survived by his special friend, Myrtle Thompson; his four sons: Steven Williams and his wife, Vicki, of Mattoon, IL, Douglas Williams of Albuquerque, NM, Gregory Williams and his wife, Gloria, of Mattoon, IL, and Gary Williams of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren: Stacy St. John and her husband, Dan, of Mattoon, IL, Darcy Williams and her friend Trisha Miller of Mattoon, IL, Bridgette Bervig and her husband, Jacob, of Frisco, TX, Michael Williams and his wife, Miranda, of Mattoon, IL, Tim Williams of Mattoon, IL, and Elizabeth Williams of Mattoon, IL; eight great grandchildren: Drake St. John, Dylan St. John, Dakota St. John, Dustin St. John, Sierra St. John, Shyanne St. John, Colton Bervig, and Matthew Bervig.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy Kay Williams; and one son, Michael Dale Williams.
Dale retired from Anaconda Metal Hose in 1981. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 until 1945. He served in the Signal Corps and worked in the White House for nine months under President Harry Truman. He was a member of Moultrie County Amateur Radio Klub, and he enjoyed being an Amateur Radio operator. Mr. Williams was a member of the American Legion and the Mattoon VFW Post #4325. He was also a member of the IBEW for 75 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting clocks.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mattoon or the American Legion.
