Estel "Bill" Huffman Mattoon, IL - Estel "Bill" L. Huffman, age 84, of Mattoon, IL, passed away
at 4:30 a.m., on Monday, January 9, 2012.
The funeral service in his honor will begin at 12 noon, Wednesday,
January 11, 2012, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue,
Mattoon, IL, 61938. Reverend Dr. Mark Prevo will officiate. Interment will
be in Mound Cemetery, Charleston, IL. Visitation will be held Wednesday,
from 10:00 a.m., until the service at 12 noon.
Born October 12, 1927, in Charleston, Illinois, Bill was the son of the
lates Albert and Blanche (Axton) Huffman. He married Patsy Hill on February
26, 1946 in Charleston, IL. Survivors include Patsy, his loving wife of 63
years, residing in Mattoon, IL; his children, Sandra Huffman of Mattoon, IL,
Bill Huffman and wife Connie of Neoga, IL, and John Huffman and wife Debra
of Key Largo, FL; six grandchildren, Brent Redfern, Mike Redfern, Kaley
Redfern, Brian Huffman, Sara Huffman-Muir, and Jenifer Cooper. He leaves
twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; two
brothers, George and Leroy Dean Huffman; and three sisters, Wanda Larson,
Marjory Daugherty, and Eunice Phillips.
Before retiring, Mr. Huffman had worked as a lineman, substation
electrician, and load dispatcher with the Central Illinois Public Service
Company for 42 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church and
served our country with the United States Navy during World War II, and the
United States Army during Korea. Memberships and affiliations include the
Masons, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 702 of
Mattoon, vocational instructor for joint apprentice training of electricians
and linemen with the IBEW and public and private utilities in East Central,
Illinois; county board member, and member of the Central Illinois Labor
Council Executive Board.
He enjoyed reading, boating, fishing, family, and community involvement.
Memorials may be made to the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Harmony Center or the
Alzheimers Association.
