Vera Grace Knauss Mattoon, IL – Vera Grace Knauss, age 92, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 11:35 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care Center in Mattoon, IL.
The funeral service in her honor will begin at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2012, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. Reverend Robert Clark will officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m., until the service begins.
Born January 23, 1920, in Windsor, IL, Vera Grace was the daughter of Clyde and Grace “Bee” (Webb) Kirk. She married G.M. “Boomer” Knauss on August 15, 1941, in Watertown, New York. He passed away December 24, 1972. Survivors include three children, David Knauss and wife Eileen of Mattoon, IL, Glenna Diane Cain of Mattoon, IL, and Stephen Berry Knauss and wife Shirley of Arcola, IL; one brother, Richard Kirk and wife Norma Jean of Mattoon, IL; one sister, Clyda Schniers of Mattoon, IL; her grandchildren, Kirby Lynn Knauss and son Landon of Mattoon, IL; Jennifer Gates of Flora, IL, and Jason Cain of Pheonix, AZ; an additional eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one great – great grandchild. In addition to her husband, Vera Grace was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Junior Clyde Kirk.
Vera Grace had attended Utterback Business College and was formerly employed as a secretary for a doctor’s office. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed word puzzles, loved to read, and cherished time spent with her family.
Memorials in her honor may be made to the Mattoon Food Pantry.
