Dorothy Jo Crum MATTOON -- Dorothy Jo Crum, age 85 of Mattoon, IL died at 2:47 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Funeral services celebrating her life will begin at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Reverend John Titus officiating. Interment will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 Noon Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Ave., Mattoon, IL. Dorothy was born June 14, 1924 in Rochester, MI, the daughter of William and Josephine (Wessinger) Bailey. She married Lawrence H. Crum on June 30, 1951 in Bloomfield Hills, MI. He died on April 19, 1998. Survivors include her daughter Mary Jo Eberspacher and son-in-law David of Mattoon, IL; one granddaughter, Sarah Marie Eberspacher of Mattoon, IL; and a sister, Joyce Newlin of Spanish Fort, AL. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister Marion Avalon Anderson. Dorothy attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Mattoon, IL. She was a retired kindergarten teacher, having taught for 38 years in Michigan, Virginia and Kentucky. A graduate of Michigan State University, Dorothy was a member of the Tower Guard (an academic honorary) and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Dorothy had a passion for playing bridge, enjoyed flower gardening, was an avid reader, and was a member of the Friends of the Mattoon Public Library. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be truly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mattoon Public Library, Coles County Animal Shelter, or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in care of Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home.
