Charleston, IL – Barbara Jean Hildreth, age 74, of Charleston, IL, formerly of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 4:50 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010, at home surrounded by her loving family.
The funeral service in her honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938. Reverend Ken Hutchens will officiate. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hildreth was born April 26, 1935, in Shelbyville, Illinois, the daughter of the late Floyd and Helen (Schooley) Gaines. She married Gene Hildreth on February 21, 1954. He passed away on January 8, 2005. Survivors include three children, Gary Hildreth of Dallas, TX, Karen Bratten and husband Greg of West Frankfort, IL, and Jean Ferguson and husband Dave of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Nancy Ready of Green Valley, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Eric Gass of Urbana, IL, Jennifer Gass of Tuscola, IL, Lindsey Hildreth of Dallas, TX, Chelsey Kelly of San Angelo, TX, Delaney Hildreth of Dallas, TX, Ryan Ferguson of St. Louis, MO, and Sarah Ferguson of St. Louis, MO; two great grandchildren, Clayton Postlewait of Tuscola, IL, and Hanna Carswell of Tuscola, IL.
Mrs. Hildreth had formerly been employed by GE Manufacturing and was a member the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon, IL. She was a member of the Charleston Country Club and the Women of the Moose. She was a volunteer with the Charleston Civic Association and also volunteered at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Barb and Gene had enjoyed camping, square dancing, golf, and snowmobiling together. In addition to reading and traveling, Barb was an avid Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals fan and golfer and dearly loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
