Dale D. Miller Mattoon, IL - Dale D. Miller, 92, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away at 2:15 p.m., on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Douglas Rehabilitation and Care Center in Mattoon, IL.
The funeral service in his honor will begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday March 4, 2010, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 with Reverend Ken Hutchens officiating. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Dale D. Miller was born on May 19, 1917, in Toledo, IL, the son of the late Arch and Zella (Dobbs) Miller. He married Florence M. Seaman on July 4, 1940 in Mattoon, IL. She passed away November 10, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin D. Miller and wife Claudia of Dallas, TX, and Monte Miller and wife Brenda of Mattoon, IL; a daughter, Margaret Borgmann and husband Ronald of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Maurine Seaman of Humboldt, IL; and six grandchildren, Brent Miller and wife Theresa of Culver City, CA, Chad Miller and wife Lisa of Louisville, TX, Matthew Miller and wife Jennifer of Mattoon, IL, Mandy Clarkson and husband Geoff of Mattoon, IL, Melissa Adams and husband Neil of St. Louis, MO, and Mary Lorber and husband Dr. Steve of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Miller was preceded in death by one brother, Perry Miller; and two sisters, Dorothy Price and Betty Lou Bariether.
Dale owned and operated Miller Farm Service for many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260 AF & AM, and active for many years in the First United Methodist Church of Mattoon, IL. Both before and after retirement: Dale enjoyed traveling the length and breadth of North America in his motor home, most notably his trek north to Alaska; he enjoyed taking on all comers in croquet at his lot on Lake Mattoon and enjoyed evening boat rides after exhausting croquet matches.
