Charleston, IL – Gwendolyn E. Bajorek, age 59, of Charleston, IL, passed away at 2:50 a.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at her residence.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born October 28, 1952, in Milwaukee, WI, Gwendolyn was the daughter of Bruno and LaVerne (Strehlow) Bajorek. Her mother survives. Other survivors include a sister, Linda Belski of New York City, New York; a son, Eric J. Bajorek of Milwaukee, WI; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
Gwendolyn attended the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. She served our country with distinction for six years in the United States Air Force. She went on to become a computer systems designer and later became vice-president of technology at PacBell’s Yellow Pages division. She also had volunteered at the Pacific Center in Berkley, CA, where she counseled troubled young people. In recent years, she became a novelist and published two books. Her hobbies included music, reading, and traveling.
Gwendolyn loved animals and had two rescued dogs. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Cumberland County Pet Connection Charity, P.O. Box 1, Toledo, IL 62468.
