Darrell M. Edwards Mattoon, IL – Darrell M. Edwards, age 74, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 5:30 a.m., on August 8, 2010, at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
The graveside service in his honor will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at the Zion Hill Cemetery, with Bishop John Emmett and Elder Calvin Smith and officiating. There will be no visitation. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938, is assisting the family.
Mr. Edwards was born November 2, 1935, in Malad, Idaho, the son of Warren and Kate (Evans) Edwards. He married Norma J. (French) Sorensen on August 5, 1964 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Karen Temples of Oakland, IL, Kathy Slater and husband Tom of Cooks Mills, IL, Steve Sorensen of Camas, WA, Pamela Jordan and husband Jim of Mattoon, IL, Derra Lee Edwards of Phoenix, AZ, Lynette Rehrer and husband Randy of Orem, Utah, Jeff Edwards of Pocatello, Idaho, and Dr. Rick Edwards and wife Micki of Des Moines, WA; five brothers, Cleon Edwards, Ren Edwards, Danny Edwards, David Edwards, and Kelly Edwards; and three sisters, Kathleen Allen, Carol Jones, and Donna Gale Madsen. He leaves 27 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Stanley Edwards; and one great grandchild.
Mr. Edwards formerly owned and operated Texaco Gas Station at 6th and Charleston, as well as Edwards Construction, both in Mattoon, IL. He later worked for Mattoon Township until his retirement. After retiring, he worked for Rogala Golf Course. He was raised in the Church of Latter Day Saints. Past memberships include the Mattoon Moose Lodge, Mattoon Elks Lodge, and the Mattoon Eagles. He was an avid golfer and cherished his family, especially time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Memorials in his honor may be made to the charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
